At the part of celebration of its 70th birthday, Big Band RTS will this year at the Festival have a special guest, Bobby Shew, the man who played his trumpet in great jazz big bands (Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Bill Holman, Louie Bellson, Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin, Oliver Nelson, Benny Goodman, Maynard Ferguson, Neal Hefti, Don Menza…). Shew’s trumpet can be heard in films Grease, Rocky, The Muppet Movie, in the TV series Streets of San Francisco, and he is an outstanding teacher – for 16 years, he’s been the chairman of the national trumpet department with International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE).
