Winner of six GRAMMY and three Latin GRAMMY Awards, pianist, composer and arranger Chucho Valdés is the key figure in the history of modern Afro-Cuban jazz. The turning point in his career came with the release of his album Jazz Batá, when for the first time he blended jazz with traditional rhythms of the sacred batá, creating the foundation of for the music of the band Irakere. He returns to this Festival exactly four decades after his performance with this legendary band, when, along with Arturo Sandoval and Paquito D’Rivera he mesmerized the audience – he will evoke memories on the Jazz Batá project with the help of the young rhythm section.
