Members of the band Cortex are the crème de la crème Scandinavian jazz: Thomas Johansson (trumpet), Kristoffer Alberts (saxophones), Ola Høyer (double bass) and Gard Nilssen (drums). They appear as leaders or sidemen in Bushman’s Revenge, Paal Nilssen-Love Large Unit, Team Hegdal, SAKA, Zanussi 5, Friends & Neighbors, AKODE, Honest John, and The Heat Death. The quartet envelops mutual interest based on work of Ornette Coleman, from the formation with two woodwind instruments and rhythm section, to style based on blues and deconstructions through free jazz expression.
