In 2007, she started her collaboration with the Swedish guitarist Ulf Wakenius, bringing her a contract with German label ACT and world-wide fame. On her album recordings she is accompanied by Lars Danielsson and Vincent Peiran and on her latest album She Moves On, she makes a surprising shift with chosen American avant-garde crew (Jamie Saft, Brad Jones, Dan Rieser, Marc Ribot), performing great covers of the best music by Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and Lou Reed, among others.

The turning point in his career came with the release of his album Jazz Batá, when for the first time he blended jazz with traditional rhythms of the sacred batá, creating the foundation of for the music of the band Irakere. He returns to this Festival exactly four decades after his performance with this legendary band, when, along with Arturo Sandoval and Paquito D’Rivera he mesmerized the audience – he will evoke memories on the Jazz Batá project with the help of the young rhythm section.

They appear as leaders or sidemen in Bushman’s Revenge, Paal Nilssen-Love Large Unit, Team Hegdal, SAKA, Zanussi 5, Friends & Neighbors, AKODE, Honest John, and The Heat Death. The quartet envelops mutual interest based on work of Ornette Coleman, from the formation with two woodwind instruments and rhythm section, to style based on blues and deconstructions through free jazz expression.

Beside their own compositions, they play a wide range of energetic covers, from Albert Ayler to The Stooges, from Steve Lacy to PJ Harvey, collaborating with different artists (Joe McPhee, Pat Metheny, Neneh Cherry…). With dedicated fans in the rock, noise and jazz communities, The Thing continues walk the new, uncompromising paths. Finally, we get to see them at the Belgrade Jazz Festival!
